Servicefradrag — tax deduction on home cleaning

In Denmark you can deduct part of the labour cost of certain household services from your taxes. This is called servicefradrag (part of the BoligJobordningen). Many of our cleaning services qualify — here is exactly how it works and which services are eligible.

Quick facts (2026)
  • Up to 18,300 DKK per person in the household per year.
  • You save roughly 26% of the eligible labour cost.
  • Only the labour counts — never materials.
  • Only for your own private home (or summer house). Not for businesses, offices or rentals.
  • Must be paid digitally (card / MobilePay) and reported on your årsopgørelse.

Which Home Clean services qualify?

✓ Eligible (private home):

Basic cleaning · Deep cleaning · Move-in/out cleaning · Window cleaning · Balcony cleaning · Carpet cleaning · Sofa cleaning · Mattress cleaning · Allergy-friendly cleaning · Garden maintenance · Weekend cleaning.

✗ Not eligible:

Business / commercial cleaning (offices, hotels, supermarkets, staircases, events), Airbnb turnover cleaning, wall painting, handyman work and wood-countertop sanding are not covered by servicefradrag.

How to claim it

  1. Book and pay your eligible service digitally — keep the invoice.
  2. Log in to skat.dkÅrsopgørelsenServicefradrag (håndværkerfradrag).
  3. Enter the labour amount. The deduction is applied automatically.

Common questions

I rent out my home on Airbnb — can I deduct the cleaning?
No. Cleaning tied to short-term rental (Airbnb) is connected to your rental income, so it is not servicefradrag. Those costs may instead be deductible against your rental income under the rental rules — ask your accountant.

Is move-out / end-of-tenancy painting deductible?
No. Painting is not on the servicefradrag or håndværkerfradrag list, so it does not qualify.

Is handyman work (assembly, mounting, repairs) deductible?
No — general handyman work is not covered. Only repair of large household appliances counts as an eligible service.
